Student's  information need(s) is to write academic assessment activities (assignment, project report, portfolio, essay, case study, legal case analysis, etc).

 Academic task:

E.G: First Year Core Module: Social Contemporary Issues: CSI Assignment

''Discuss the importance of gender mainstreaming in education''

Getting started with the academic task:

  • First, identify and analyze the keywords (terms) in a topic
  • Make sure that you understand the meaning of key concepts in the assignment topic, by using dictionaries, brainstorm with friends and classmates, and take note of what you already know about the topic
  • Understand and apply the common instruction words used in assignments (e.g. describe, explain, discuss, describe, survey, review, compare, OR outline). pay attention to them. In this example, the instruction is to 'discuss'
  • use dictionaries (print/online) to look up the meanings of key terms/concepts in the assignment topic
